This wonderful Willamette Heights property contains 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths and is located in this peaceful setting steps to Forest Park and NW 23rd. You can enter two different Forest Park trails within seconds or take a short walk for coffee and breakfast at St. Honore. Views of the City lights and Mt. Hood are tremendous from the three covered porches that allow you to enjoy them through any type of weather.

This home boasts 3000 square feet, tastefully remodeled to keep all of the great old details of an Old Portland home from this era. The systems were all redone, including a new electrical panel, and the master/main bathroom is a beautiful, full remodel. This home is listed at $659,000.

This home was one of 33 Willamette Heights Homes designed by Emil Schacht for the Lewis and Clark Exposition attendees. The site around Montgomery Park, which is viewable from this home, was where the exposition was held in 1905. The homes and land in the area would have been an incredible sight. Today, this area and its views, proximity to one of the greatest parks in the United States (Forest Park), and proximity to the shopping and entertainment in NW make Willamette Heights unique.

You walk or drive over them everyday in Portland, but have you ever looked down at some of the wonderful art sitting in the middle of your street? This photo was taken at the base of Mt. Tabor near 57th and Salmon. This cover has an intricate rose on its cover, as do many of the street covers in the Rose city. Historically speaking, its difficult to say where these covers were made and when. Much of the iron has been worn off from so much wear over the last 100 years. Many of the covers do display the name of the manufacturing company that created them, and I’m sure that a few of these corporations are around today. A few great shots can be found here and at this great Portland site www.portlandground.com. Enjoy the little things around you on a daily basis and check out my site monthly for something new.

I live in SE Portland and love it. I walk my daughter to school each morning, and then swing over to the local coffee shop to get going. On rare weekends when I don’t work, I barely look at my car. Its what I love about Portland and my neighborhood. Many of Portland’s historic neighborhoods have the same feeling. Its almost impossible to describe to people how you feel about it, because there are so many great qualities to these neighborhoods. The Horse Project fits into that category for me. Its clever and funny, and one of those “quirky Portland things that people remember and talk about“.

I feel connected to these neighborhoods, and so I asked a local company Build Creative Group to help me design a marketing campaign for my Real Estate business that highlights the small details of my neighborhood and the fact that I enjoy living and working here. Each month I will have a new photo and blog about a detail that we may overlook on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy!

The Bungalow style of home is a very popular home that you find in almost every area of the city. The word originated from India and technically stands for a smaller one-story home. The bungalow is very popular because many times in the Portland area they can contain intricately detailed woodwork, built-in benches and cabinets, inviting porches and living spaces, and are usually placed on a moderately sized yard that is easy to maintain. Bungalows tend to be in the denser neighborhoods of Portland contributing to that neighborly culture that people tend to love. You will find examples of Bungalows in SE Portland, NE Portland, NW Portland, N Portland and SW Portland. You tend to see a higher concentration on Bungalows in the neighborhoods closer into the city for a variety of reasons. The first reason is that these areas usually have smaller lot sizes and a Bungalow tends to offer the privacy and quality of a great home that translates well onto a smaller lot. The second reason is probably because at the time that the city was expanding into these areas, the bungalow was an easy and popular option.

Most bungalows tend to have been built in the early 1900’s and continued being built well into the 1940’s. There were also a variety of styles of bungalows that became popular during that time with different characteristics. A very popular style on bungalow was the Craftsman Style bungalow that was being built during the Arts and Crafts movement in America. For a detailed description of these bungalows, I find this link to be a great reference or at least a good start. Floor plans vary, but tend to have 2-3 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, dining room, and kitchen. Some bungalows have one and a half stories and can contain another bedroom or more upstairs. Many homeowners are remodeling these spaces to create a separate master suite on the upper floor, but this was obviously not of the original design.

All in all, the bungalow is a fantastic home that you find in many of the great neighborhoods of Portland and in many great cities throughout America. It personally is one of my favorite styles of home and I sincerely enjoy the fact that in my job I get a chance to see a lot of them. Each one seems to be different in its own way, whether brightly colored, magnificently landscaped, or remodeled with a modern twist.
